Sahara Getaway – 3 nights / 4 days tour : Marrakesh, Atlas, Sahara, 4WD tour
Day 1 : Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou (180 km / 4 hours)
Morning pick up from your hotel to start our trip. We set our travel towards Ait Ben Haddou via the High Atlas Mountains, the tallest mountains of Morocco, home to the second highest mountain of Africa. The drive across the mountains is full of amazing scenery at every turn. The highest point of the Tizi Tichka is 2260m and the views over the region overwhelming. After reaching the peak we start descending towards the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, the best preserved and most visited Kasbah of Morocco. Upon arrival you will understand why. This Ksar – traditional stronghold-was once full of busy life and offered shelter on the caravan routes. Spend the night in the tranquility and beauty not far from the site. Dinner and overnight in a Ksar or kasbah.
Day 2 : Ait Ben Haddou – Nekob – Merzouga (250 km / 5 hours)
Today we will continue the journey of Morocco to Agdez . The road will take us through high peaks of barren mountains of the Anti-Atlas Then we descend into the Draa Valley lined by millions of palms. We follow the Valley and views of palm trees to Nekob . The scenery will then change as we start approaching the Saghro Mountains – a seemingly bare and barren volcanic landscape that actually boasts a great variety of plants and animals which survive through in a harsh and hostile environment. Yet, the scenery will change again as we approach Merzouga and the desert landscape will take over. We might get excited seeing the first sand dunes from the road. Here we arrive in the camp, where guide and camels take us for a camel trek across the desert to admire the views of the sun set, coloring the sand from yellow, orange to red and brown. Dinner and night in the camp.
Day 3 : Merzouga – Todra gorges – Skoura (220 km / 5 hours)
Waking up before the sun rise gives you the chance to see the sun lighting the sand dunes . After breakfast, we head to Tinerhir, where we visit Todra Gorge. Considered one of the most dramatic sights one can come across in the whole Morocco. The gorge was carved out by the Todra river forming cliff-sided canyons on its final 40 km through the mountains. The final 600m of the gorge are stunning as the canyon narrows to a flat stony track as little as 10m wide in places with sheer and smooth rock walls. The drive today will take us to the Rose Valley, Kella Mgouna know for this growth of roses, and passing in April, May the whole valley smells of roses. Road of Thousand Kasbahs will take us to the oasis of Skoura. Dinner and overnight in a Kasbah in the heart of the palm groves.
Day 4 : Skoura – Marrakech (240 km / 5 hours)
After breakfast, free time to go for a walk in the oasis , known for its old clay Kasbahs and beautiful paths in the middle of the olive trees gardens. Then cross the High Atlas back to Marrakech. Not to travel all the way the same route, we will be taking the main route along villages such as Agouim and Ighrem. Then we meet the Tizi n’Tichka that will take us to Marrakech. Expected arrival around 5pm, drop off at your hotel or riad .
